Laundro-Cat

My kitty has chosen the strangest of beds:

a basket of laundry, socks cushion her head.

She snores like a tractor, all cosy and curled,

Her tail, amidst my clean trousers, is furled.

“Oh, kitty,” I whisper, “you're sweet as can be.

But those trousers beneath you – they should be on me!”

“They are clean and black, and almost brand new…

I need them for school – not as bedsheets for you!”

She spreads out her toes and opens one eye…

She flexes her claws. “Not my trousers!” I cry.

And just like that, with a smirk on her face,

She leaps from the basket, with effortless grace…

“Oh, thank you kitty”, I say, with relief…

Snatching my trousers away from the thief.

On went my trousers – but that wasn’t that…

For the fur on the fabric could make a new cat!
